Several factors: Cramping can cause toes to curl or go into spasm. This is often due to low potassium or magnesium as well as poor biomechanics. Hammertoes are toes caused by contracture of a specific joint in toe. In the early stages this contracture is flexible and reducible. This can give a curling appearance to toes. The best way to find out what is going on is to see a podiatrist.
