A member asked:

Why are there fewer doctors who accept hmo plans than ppo?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Restrictions/payment: Many hmo plans make it difficult for the doctor to take care of patients, requiring preauthorizations for lab tests and other 'routine' interventions.Doctors offices need to increase the number of their employees in order to 'manage the paperwork' and this increase expense of being a doctor is only exacerbated by the declining payments that the doctor has to accept if they participate.
