A member asked:

What are the more common causes of a swollen tongue?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Swollen tongue: By far the most common cause is an acute allergic reaction (called "angioedema"). This is usually painless but may interfere with breathing. Other causes include infection (glossitis), benign tumors (neurofibromas), vitamin deficiency, underactive thyroid, infiltrative diseases (eg. Amyloidosis), and certain very rare congenital causes (beckwith-weideman syndrome).
