ADH (vasopressin): Antidiuretic hormone (ADH (vasopressin)) is a small (peptide) molecule that is released by the pituitary gland at the base of the brain after being made nearby (in the hypothalamus). ADH (vasopressin) has an antidiuretic action that prevents the production of dilute urine (and so is antidiuretic). People with the syndrome of inappropriate ADH (vasopressin) secretion are fluid overload and have a low serum sodium, which can be harmful.

ADH (vasopressin): Hi. Antidiuretic hormone (ADH (vasopressin)) is a peptide hormone made in the hypothalamus and released from the posterior pituitary. It's release is regulated by circulating blood volume status and by solute concentration. ADH (vasopressin) works to reabsorb water from urinary filtrate by the kidneys. Diabetes insipidus is a rare condition deficient in ADH (vasopressin) or where the kidneys can't respond to ADH (vasopressin). SIADH (vasopressin) is too much ADH (vasopressin).

Vasopressin: Anti-diuretic hormone, also known as vasopressin, is a chemical compound which signals to the kidney that it should re-absorb water which would otherwise be urinated. Too much or too little antidiuretic hormone can cause abnormalities of the sodium level in the blood.
