May not find cause: Telogen effluvium and alopecia areata can both do this. Watching friends stress over the mcat's, i'm surprised more didn't get te. It's your choice how much of a workup to pursue -- the key is ruling out thyroid disease.

Hair loss: I think you should be seen again. I would want to recheck your thyroid function with full thyroid labs, including antibodies. Extreme stress can cause some hair loss, but I would expect it to be much improved after 10 months. Best of luck to you.
