What happens if you break procardia (nifedipine) er in half? i read the warnings to never do this, but was told to take the extended release 15mg.

Can't do it: You can't take 15 mg of Procardia (nifedipine) xl ("er"). The smallest dose is 30 mg, you can't break them in half, crush, or chew them as they're gel filled and you'll get the full dose rapidly with an immediate release.
