A trigger thumb? : I assume this is what u have, ; is caused by inflammation of the flexor tendon 2 the thumb. It causes a swelling that doesn't fit through the pully (sp), so when u make a fist ; flex ur thumb the swelling or lump in the tendon pops through the pully, ; feels locked ; ur not able 2 straighten it out. This may require u 2 use ur other hand 2 do so. Surgery just cuts the pully, ; it widens/prob gone.

Trigger digits: Thumbs, fingers are typically repsonsive to corticosteroid injections. For those that are not or are associated with a more severe triggering or a fixed contracture or a tendon adherance or are just resistent to treatment and are uncomfortable, surgical release can work well. While any procedure can have a complication or side effect, in general the procedure works well.
