A member asked:

What does 'erythrocyte sedimentation rate' test tell doctor?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Depends: The sedimentation rate can be elevated for a number of reasons. The most common cause is inflammation. The test is most valuable when it is done in looking for a certain condition. It has far less value as a "screening test." a normal sed rate can be helpful in ruling out different conditions.
