Need info: A surgically created fistula for dialysis is not removed unless infected. An av fistula from other sources may need repair. Why do you have an av fistula?

Dialysis fistula: I believe you're asking about AV Fistula for dialysis access (transfer blood to and from dialysis machine for treatment). They're commonly called "permanent." Really "sort of permanent." AVFs last much longer on average than dialysis catheter & longer than a graft. They need weeks to "mature" before used. Not truly permanent. Many patients will need further access at some point. Hope this helps.
