Treatable.: Communicating hydrocephalus is a problem with the absorption of spinal fluid through the arachnoid villi. Rarely the problem can correct itself, but generally treatment is necessary before severe damage ensues. Medications can help temporize things, but surgery or shunt placement is almost always required.
