Yes: Herpes is common on the lips and is very contagious.

Very unlikely: This could happen but is very unlikely. Kissing or oral sex account for almost all cases of transmission of oral herpes among adults. Obviously, common sense should prevail: don't share straws, cups, glasses or eating utensils with anyone who has an active oral herpes outbreak or seems to have blisters/sores on the lips, mouth, etc. Otherwise don't worry about this.
