A member asked:

Can you please tell me more aobut erythropoetin?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

It's a hormone: It is released by the kidneys and stimulates the bone marrow cells to make red blood cells. Red blood cells carry oxygen from the lungs to all over the body.... As a medication, it is used to treat certain types of anemia (conditions of low red blood cell production). It is also sometimes abused by some athletes to increase their red cells to improve their performance!!!
