Herpes Viruses: There are three herpes viruses. The common chicken pox is caused by a cousin to the other two "herpes' viruses. Chicken pox can now be prevented by the childhood varicella vaccination and hopefully with time we will see this eradicated. There are two herpes viruses. Herpes type one is found on or near the mouth more than 90% of the time. Herpes two is found near the genitals 95% of the time.
