A member asked:

Could plasma donations tell you if you have hiv?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Possibly.: Persons with possible HIV should not donate. Plasma centers test donors for HIV so that the center can decrease the possibility of transmitting infections via products. It is not a good idea to donate plasma to find out if you are HIV positive. There can be a 'window' of time between HIV infection and tests turning positive. A donor in the 'window' may be false negative and spread hiv.
