A member asked:

Can you tell me about transposition of the great arteries?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Two main forms: Classic form (d-TGA) results in severe cyanosis (blue baby). The pulmonary artery arises from the left ventricle and the aorta arises from the right ventricle, resulting in 2 separate circulations in parallel--all the red, oxygenated blood returns to the lungs and the blue, deoxygenated blood goes to the body. Generally results in severe cyanosis and early death if not repaired in early infancy.
