Is it okay to open capsules of medication if you can't swallow them?

Be careful: This can be dangerous. Sometimes capsules are used because the medicine is intended to dissolve in a certain part of your body beyond the stomach. Other times, if you open the capsule, it can lead to inappropriately quick absorption of the medicine which can lead to problems. Make sure you check with your pharmacist or doctor before opening capsules.
