For starters take --: Some pain meds, rest the foot, icing/heat pads might be helpful as well. Seeing your gp would be helpful to get evaluated/investigated/treated or onward referral to a podiatrist/foot ; ankle doc. A lot depends on whether the pain is on the top or bottom of the foot and on being examined. Good luck.

Throbbing: Unfortunately there needs to be more history here. However , anything that is very painful merits an exam. Possibilities include stress fracture, tendonitis, gout , arrthritis, tarsal tunnel , vascular episode, to name just a few. See your podiatrist for an evaluation - sooner rather than later.
