Be patienr: Unless the trauma injured the area where the nail is born which is under the cuticle the nail should grow out with time. It takes an entire year to get a new toenail.

Gently remove it: You can often tease this off using tweezers and scissors or clippers. If the cut leaves anything sticking out, you can use a bit of loose sandpaper to soften any loose edges so they don't snag on stockings. Monitor the wound daily and keep it clean.A bit of antibiotic ointment to cover raw areas and it should heal nicely.Regrowth is slow at 1-2 mm/mo.
