Asendin (amoxapine): Mechanism of action in the management of depressive disorders is unknown but may involve inhibition of reuptake of norepinephrine and to a lesser extent serotonin by Amoxapine and its active metabolites, 8-hydroxyamoxapine and 7-hydroxyamoxapine.Amoxapine is a derivative of the antipsychotic agent Loxapine and has dopamine-receptor blocking properties; may possess some antipsychotic activity. Specific side effects are dry mouth blurred vision lightheadedness dizziness and constipation as well as a longer-term risk of developing tardiva dyskinesia. As with all antidepressants there is a risk of increased suicidal thinking as the dose is started.
