Usually only a small: Amount of disc material removed after this type of surgery, generally <10% with access to the disc gained by small opening through the roof of spinal canal known as the lamina with care to preserve integrity of other supporting structures such as the facet joint ; pars region which allows for continued function ; support in the region but 10% go on to have back pain due to further degeneration.
