Dr. Peter Kurzweil answered

Description: Describe in your own words exactly what is going on with your bowel pattern, and exactly what you mean by bowel incontinence. If you have true fecal incontinence, it may not be a GI problem, but rather a neurologic problem. So, once again, describe precisely what your symptoms are to the doctor.

Defecography, manome: There are specialized tests for these problems, usually supervised by a colorectal surgeon. A special x-ray takes images while you have a bowel movement and there are sensors that can test the muscle pressure in the rectum to see if there is a weakness (manometrics).
