See below: Advil or Motrin (ibuprofen) may be offered with a warm wash cloth to the affected ear. If he has congestion or cold symptoms-offer fluids, steamy showers or baths. If it is painful to touch the outer ear-an external ear canal infection may be the cause (swimmer's ear) due to irritation of the skin of the canal-often caused by qtips use or poking with fingernails. See your doctor if it persists.
