Birds and The Bees: Pregnancy occurs when a sperm meets an egg that has been released acutely from an ovary. This impregnation is only possible on the day of ovulation. Ovulation, not your periods, is the centerpiece of your menstrual cycle. You should know when you ovulate. Sperm can survive in a female up to five days. So, sperm deposited in the vagina can cause pregnancy up to five days prior to ovulation.
