Is there infection?: Immediately after a piercing, ice is your best bet to reduce swelling. Apply for 10-20 minutes every hour. Sleep with your head elevated. Avoid tobacco use. If it is warm, red, or oozing, you may have an infection and should see a physician to get a proper diagnosis amd possibly a round of antibiotics.

Pain S/P Piercing: You received excellent advice from dr. Arnold. An additional option is auricular acupuncture with asp needles - very effective. But if you have any signs of infection - you need to see your physician.
