A 46-year-old member asked:

can you provide some advice for someone who's had a bone marrow biopsy?

Dr. Gurmukh Singh
Pathology 49 years experience
The reason for: Biopsy. Bone marrow biopsy is done for a large number of reasons and the follow up care would depend on the diagnosis. As for the site of biopsy, you should leave the bandage on for 3-4 days for the wound to close and may take over the counter pain relief. See this site for more info. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/bone-marrow-biopsy/my00305.

A treatment: When surgery is indicatd to treat a scoliosis it will involve a spinal fusion. A fusion is a surgery allowing for bones to be joined together and usually there is a correction of the scoliosis with the surgery with use of spine implants or instrumentation which enhances the healing rate of the fusion while maintaining the scoliosis correction until the bones are healed together.

What can I expect if I go to the emergency room with a broken bone? Orthopedic treatment that night?

Dr. Allen Seely
General Practice 31 years experience
Probable referral: An xray will be able to tell 'the seriousness of the fracture' such as displacement or comminution. Displacement is when the bones are 'shifted' and less likely to heal. Communition is when there are 'extra fragments' . An orthopedic doctor will be called and follow-up arranged depending upon the seriousness.

If I had a body scan today, when can I restart taking my hormone medicine?

Depends on hormones : I think that would depend on the type of hormone you are talking about and the scan you had. If you didnt get instructions then check with your doctor first. Did you have a thyroid scan? Was it a bone scan or a density scan?

A 46-year-old female asked:

I ve had hbp ranging from 170 /110 and pulse at about 100 120 most of the time for about a week despite taking BP drugs. Ekg was negative. Thoughts?

Check with the doc: Many blood pressure medications take longer than a week to have their full effect. Check with your doctor as you may need a higher dose or another medication. Hbp is damaging over the long term most of the time and not over a few days so check with your doctor.
