Many possible: There is a very small muscle in the calf that is called the plantaris muscle and sometimes it can get injured while working out. People often describe a sudden sharp pain in the calf. Not always associated with swelliing or bruising. Other possibilities are strain or rupture of achilles tendon but this causes a lot of pain and swelling and difficulty with walking. See your doc for evaluation.
