A 41-year-old member asked:

what are the odds that my whiteheads, blackheads will be gone by 20?

Not a betting doc: I wouldn't bet on them magically going away at any age as acne can last well into adulthood! be proactive and find a doc to get you started on an appropriate management regimen to get it cleared up! think about ancillary treatments like microdermabrasion, chemical peels as well to help open up pores. Good hygiene on your part is vital as well!

What can I do to treat whiteheads, not blackheads?

White Heads: Whiteheads should be extracted by an experienced esthetician or dermatologist. To prevent from forming in the first place, you should use a mild facial cleanser that is oil-free and wash your face at least twice a day. Never squeeze or pick at a pimple as doing so may spread the inflammation and leave an ugly red scar behind. Use a face cream or moisturizer containing salicylic acid or retin a (tretinoin).

No: The white head is more under the surface. The black head is open to a pore. The air oxygenates the material to make it darker.
