A member asked:

How long does it usually take for prozac (fluoxetine) (fkuoxetine) to work and how high is the chance for it to actually work for someone who is 16 years old?

2 weeks: 2-4 weeks is the general time frame to give medications to see if they help. Prozac (fluoxetine) is the most recommended and best working in teens. If you have been on it that long and see nothing, talk it over with your doc.. I also suggest chinese medicine and acupuncture in addition as they can have great benefit.

Prozac (fluoxetine): Prozac requires at least 4-6 weeks to show effectiveness, but results in adolescents can be more variable. Please also consider psychotherapy in your treatment - - as this can increase effectiveness and decrease symptoms. If you are actually bipolar, Prozac can make things worse for you unless you continue mood stabilizing medications (like seroquel (quetiapine) and others).
