Jaw pain: No simple answer; it depends what's the cause. Jaw pain can be due to dental/periodontal disease, sinusitis, even earache (referred pain), it can be due to medication effects (eg. Fosamax), intrinsic bone disease (benign and malignant tumors), cysts, TMJ joint pain, or hyperostosis (overgrowth of bone). You need an evaluation.

Seek dental help: There are many reasons for jaw pain. You need to see a dentist to find the reason for the pain. Until the reason is known, no one can tell you how to eliminate it.

See a specialist: Tmj problems don't usually subside on their own. The cause and source of the tmj/tmd pain must be evaluated, along with a super thorough history. A TMJ specialist should be consulted to get the answers that you desire. Your pain may be due to an infected tooth, gum infection or some other underlying ailment. Don't mess around. See someone.

Diagnosis First: Find out what is causing the pain. See an oral surgeon for diagnosis and treatment suggestions.
