First-aid: To treat a fingernail injury, first start by cleaning the area with an antiseptic solution. Next, apply an over the counter antibiotic ointment such as polysporin (bacitracin and polymyxin). Keep the finger covered with a sterile dressing/bandaid. Keep the finger out of any contaminated exposures or prolonged liquid submersion.
