Sex and the Skin: Close intimate contact can certainly be a means by which skin contamination occurs. Most often viral illness is spread, such as herpes virus, hepatitis and papilloma virus. Bacterial cross-contamination can also occur but this is different from actual infection. Carbuncles and furuncles often occur in response to bacterial invasion, often from bacteria already present and thus unrelated to sex.
