A member asked:

How long can people live after being diagnosed as hiv+?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Depends upon therapy: Average life expectancy for someone diagnosed with HIV who does not receive highly active antiretrovial therapy (haart) is 8 to 10 years. With a healthy lifestyle and appropriate health care including medications, a person in her/his 20s may live into their 70s (fifty years) with hiv. Treatment and taking care of the patient may give the patient 4 to 5 times life expectancy. Hope this helps.
