A member asked:

Dental experts! what is the difference between depression vs sadness?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Here's the difference.: With sadness you feel just mildly down. With depressionthere is a far-reaching effect on your mental and physical health and existence. For example, you asked for dental experts to comment on this topic instead of mental experts. That is the type of difficulty that is more likely to be found with depression as opposed to with sadness. Depression causes problems with concentration attention span feeling hopeless hopeless worthless and guilty, causing increased or decreased sleep, increased or decreased appetite, and a loss of motivation and pleasure. Depression can also cause suicidal or homicidal thinking. If you are depressed please seek treatment. See your family doctor first and take it from there. Be sure to be involved in psychotherapy as well. Best wishes for a happy and healthy holiday season.
