Infection or hormone: Right before your menstrual period starts, your estrogen levels drop. This can cause vaginal symptoms either by just raising the pH of the vagina or by the increased pH encouraging yeast or certain bacteria to grow. For some women these symptoms will get worse until just after their menses stops.
