Hyperlax = flexible: Double jointed usually describes someone with what we call hyperlaxity (hyper flexible). If the increased laxity becomes problematic, the laxity is referred to as patholaxity. A common example would be if ones hyperlax shoulder suddenly began to slip out of joint (subluxate or dislocate) with little or no trauma. Mere , therefore, is not necessarily a disorder at all.
