I am having pain all the time when i breath. I don't know what to do. I have been having issues for a couple of years with my breathing. It feels like i cannot get a deep enough breath. I sometimes can exhale as far out as possible and get a deep enough b

Smoking & breathing: Smoking damages the lung tissue and can lead a person to have shortness of breath. Smokers are at an increase risk of many diseases, thus it would be best to have your dad seen by a physician if he is currently having a hard time breathing.

Remind him of the ..: Benefits to giving up smoking: within 20 mins, blood pressure and heart rate decrease; within 12 hrs, carbon monoxide blood levels normalize; within 48 hrs, the sense of smell and taste start recovering; within 3 mos, circulation and lung function improve; within 9 mos, there is less coughing and shortness of breath; within 1 yr, the risk of coronary heart disease is cut in half. Many things....: The length of time speaks against infection, but asthma, reflux, weight, heart issues, pulmonary hypertension, lupus, etc etc are all possible.

See a doctor: You may have asthma that is triggered by humidity. Thus a good history and physical exam by a doctor is important.

Spirometry also: A detailed history and a thorough physical examination are very important. Also, spirometry is an excellent way to assess lung function. While cold, dry air is the usual triggers for asthma, some people have trouble with hot, humid temperatures.

Breathing: Make sure you get a chest xray. You could also have fractured ribs and/or a lung injury.

Many things: A better history includes how long have you had it, how far can you walk, what happens on stairs and at night. Do you have any fever, cough, wheezing, or chest pain. Cant make a diagnosis without a more complete history and physical exam. Your pediatrician can help. At your age it could be asthma or a virus or something else..

Short of breath. : There's a long list of issues that could cause this. Would also depend on whether this is a new issue or if you e had it for a while. Could be asthma? Anemia? Bronchitis? Allergies? A doctor's visit would be in order to elucidate the cause.
