A member asked:

How is young age of first intercourse & cervical cancer related?how many get cancer due to this reason specially in those who have never had papsmear

A doctor has provided 1 answer

HPV exposure: Most cervical cancers are caused by chronic infection with certain strains of the human papilloma virus. Hpv is spread by unprotected sex, and so the earlier age a girl starts having sex, the more likely she is to have more partners and run into one who is hpv+. Pap smears screen for the early changes caused by hpv; if you don't have one you aren't screened or treated, and so have a higher risk.
