Shouldn't be: If done properly, there is a sudden fall on the rope and the neck breaks with rapid death. If not done properly, the death might be by asphyxiation which could take several minutes and that would not be pleasant. It is a different, and probably terrifying kind of death. The reflexes involved in hanging appear ghastly to the observers and so this form of execution has mostly been abandoned.
