Workup/Management: I would recommend that you see your physician today. The black color may be dried blood or caused by inhaled carbon. If you had a heat injury to your lung and inhaled smoke, this is another possible cause. Your physician will order a chest radiograph and send the sputum for cytology and cultures. In the meantime, I would suggest treating any symptoms of reflux unless otherwise contraindicated.
