Costocondritis: Without having much to go on, one possibilty is costocondritis. As the word implies, this is an inflammation of the rib cartilages. With breathing and therefore movement of the chest wall, this can elicit pain. This condition is usually self-limiting and the pain symptoms are treated with nsaids (motrin, for example).

Pleuritis can also do something similar. Your physician can perform a focused physical examination and order studies that can help establish your diagnosis.

Many things: Lung infections, chest wall or lung inflammation, pericarditis (inflammation of the lining of the heart, pulmonary embolism (blood clot in the lung vessels), strained muscles between the ribs, and shingles are some of the possible causes.

Multiple things: Could be a problem with skin, nerves, muscle, shoulder, lung, heart, or stomach. See your doctor for a more thorough history, physical exam and further evaluation. If you sleep on your stomach you could have a neck strain that radiates pain to the chest or arm. Get checked out just to make sure.

Likely musculoskelet: in other words: not heart related. Likely falls into the category that I consider bothersome but necessarily worrisome.
