I don't advise it : Although a common part of many parents medicine chest, I do not advise the use of vapor rub or similar products on any infant under six years. Any fume or fragrance producing product can lead to excessive internal nasal swelling ; congestion of the young infant ; increased breathing difficulty. The older infant ; child can mouth breathe ; bypass this effect.
