Possibly: One of the calf muscles, gastronemius, crosses both the ankle as well as the knee. If the muscle is damaged it can cause you to change your gait/function of the knee which ultimately can cause knee pain. Occasional the calf muscle tears (strained) close to the back of the knee and can cause "knee" pain directly.
