B12 and Thallasemia: Thalassemia is a genetic condition causing small blood cells and potential anemia. A lack of vitamin B12 causes large blood cells and anemia. Thalassemia and B12 deficiency may have normal sized cells with anemia. If you have thalassemia and your B12 levels are normal you won't get any benefit from increasing B12 in your diet. If your levels are low then you would get a benefit.
