Anatomy: Blood flows in two directions: out from the heart in arteries and back to the heart in veins. In the penis sexual arousal causes the veins at the base of the penis to constrict making outflow of blood more difficult. The attires pump blood into the penis and less blood is allowed to flow out leading to what we call an erection.
