In the joints: Arthritis of any time is condition of the joints- "arth"=joint, "itis"=inflammation. So technically it isn't the bones that get it, but rather the cartilage on the surfaces that meet at the joint. The hand is just as vulnerable as any joint- and hand arthritis is common. Osteoarthritis usually refers to wearing out of the cartilage as opposed to inflammatory where the body attacks its own tissues.
