Use a condom, since you can acquire sexually transmitted infections through anal sex, including HIV and hepatitis c, especially if you're on the bottom. Use water-based lubrication and start slow. A little discomfort is normal at first, but a lot of pain means you should stop to avoid anal damage, such as fissures. Starting with fingers can help loosen things up.
