PeP ; PreP: Hiv prevention is done in two different scenarios. If there is a high risk exposure, pep (post exposure prophylaxis) if started within 72 hours of exposure may help prevent infection with hiv. This is a three drug cocktail. In prep, (pre-exposure prophylaxis) one uses a two drug cocktail known as truvada (emtricitabine and tenofovir) (viread and Emtriva combined). These medications are the same as used for an infected person.
