Allergy, infection: Causes include scabies, a mite infection, a reaction to a medication, a reaction to laundry detergent, fabric softener, new clothing. In addition it could be sign of eczema where rash is not yet apparent. If significant and not improved with otc cream see dermatologist or primary care physician.

Get tested: You could have a thyroid condition, causing the itchy skin and hair loss, \. I doubt the vacation had anything to do with this. Please see our doctor.

Maybe, or maybe not. Getting tested is easy. Darkened skin in the armpit area, and neck can be a pre-diabetic condition, but I don't think it would cause hair thinning

Will a hysterectomy and low-dose estogen cause dry, itchy, scaly skin?

Dr. Peter Baumann

Lack of estrogen: A hysterectomy is not known to cause dry, itchy, and scaly skin. Lack of estrogen is. The fact that estrogen has been prescribed indicates that the woman was not yet in menopause and the ovaries were removed with the uterus, or she was in menopause already. A higher dose of estrogen may alleviate the symptoms. Also, thyroid disease can cause these symptoms, which a blood test can rule out.

What can be done to treat acne on the face, chest, and shoulders?

Dr. Michael Fisher
Dermatology 32 years experience
Acne Therapy: Acne treatments work by reducing oil production, speeding up skin cell turnover, fighting bacterial infection, reducing the inflammation or doing all four. With most prescription acne treatments, you may not see results for four to eight weeks, and your skin may get worse before it gets better. There are topicals like ziana and epiduo and oral medication like solodyn (minocycline). See your dermatologist.
