Why/how does pku lead to albinism or hypoigmentation?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Good question: Phenylalanine is the precursor molecule to tyrosine which is required as the basic unit that's polymerized into melanin. Restricted phenylalanine provided to these patients leaves less to darken the skin and hair.
