Probably not: A baby's environment is not sterile. It is important to wash bottle with hot soapy water after use to remove any residual formula and keep it clean, just as you would your cups and dishes. City water is generally clean and ok to use for making formula.

Depends: In cities with approved water supplies, sterilizing is overkill.A good bottle brush to get it clean and normal soapy water like you use for your own dishes is adequate.
